Delicate 15ct gold necklace set with two gorgeously rich amethyst stones with an arrangement of pearls.
Many believe that lavaliers got their name from the mistress of Louis XIV; Duchesse de La Valliere.
They became popular in the 1800s, and their popularity grew, particularly in the Edwardian era.
The necklace is in good antique condition with minor signs of wear.
There is a very small black dot inclusion on the bottom pear-cut amethyst.
The clasp on the chain is in working order.
One of the pearls has been replaced.
The back of the bezel containing the pear-cut amethyst is stamped 15c for 15ct gold
The necklace has also been tested and is 15ct gold throughout.
Not only does the style and fabrication of this piece help determine its age, but also its metal content, as 15ct (62.5% gold) ceased production in 1932.
Necklace measures approx. 40cm in length (just under 16”)
The drop length of the lavalier measures approx. 5cm
Central amethyst stone measures approx. 7mm in diameter.
Pear cut amethyst measures approx. 5.5mm x 8.5mm
